Healthy Living Technology [Our Products]
About Us
Healthy Living Technology was started in 1998 with a focus on state-of-the-art air and water purification products. Full spectrum, energy-efficient lighting was added in 1999.
We have been providing southwest Michigan and parts of Indiana with quality products for over ten (10) years.
Our mission is to provide our clients with technological innovations that help them to live in a healthier manner and reduce the negative impact of modern living on people and the environment. Reducing energy usage—saving resources for future generations is an important part of our mission.
Education is also an important part of our mission. We hope that by educating people about the importance of energy-efficiency we can reduce the need for building new power plants, reduce toxic emissions into our environment, and save natural resources for generations to come.
Ingredients We Use
My whole-house water purification systems are designed specifically to meet your water purification needs using multiple, full-size 20” x 4.5” filters, a state-of-the-art Trojan UV Max® ultraviolet disinfection system, a ScaleBlaster® electronic water conditioning unit, 1” copper pipe and brass fittings, including full-port ball valves and bypass for easy filter changes and servicing of the unit.
If you are on fluoridated municipal water I can install a filter to remove this undesirable toxin from your water.
Our Practices
Before I begin design of your whole house water purification system, your water is tested by one of the top independent water testing laboratories in the country, National Testing Laboratories (www.watercheck.com).
With that information, I design a system that truly meets your needs and doesn’t have any unnecessary components. Why pay for something you don’t need?
The goLite® Light Box for SAD is available for you to try before you buy (as are many of my products).
Highlights
All of my product here on the West Michigan Co-op website are made right here in the US, except the compact fluorescent bulbs. Unfortunately, nobody makes these in Michigan. I added the compact fluorescents because of Consumers Energy’s plan to build seven more coal-fired power plants, with at least one in West Michigan.
We are concerned about the effects these power plants have on global warming due to the excessive greenhouse gas emissions and the effect on our locally-produced food due to the large amounts of toxic methyl mercury that are emitted by the smokestacks of these plants. This mercury is picked up by the wind and is blown all over West Michigan then falls to the ground or is washed out of the air by rain, contaminating our environment.
How can we produce safe, healthy food here in West Michigan when these coal-fired power plants are dumping toxic mercury into the water and on the organic plants and animals we eat?
My main lighting supplier, Technical Consumer Products (TCP) is a U.S.-owned company with their own manufacturing facilities in China. TCP is a world leader in compact fluorescent technology. They produce over 70 product lines for other companies including GE, Phillips, Sylvania, Westinghouse, as well as the NVision line for HomeDepot, using the specifications dictated by those companies. None of the other product lines has the same high-quality specifications and components as TCP’s own line.
My whole house water purification systems are custom built in your home or business to your specifications.
Concerned about health effects of fluoride added to your drinking water? Check out our fluoride removal system for your whole house. If you would like more information about this call or email me.
Misc.
I also carry energy-efficient commercial, industrial and office lighting that is manufactured in Michigan by Full Spectrum Solutions.
If West Michigan Co-op members are interested I will include those products on here as well. Please let me know.
Two important environmental issues I feel strongly about are global warming (climate change) and toxic mercury in our environment. The best way we can help with both of these is through increased energy efficiency in our electrical products and decreased usage of electricity from coal-fired power plants. Compact fluorescent bulbs are a good way to do both of these things.
A compact fluorescent bulb (CFL) can produce the same amount of light as an incandescent for less than a quarter (1/4th) of the energy and last fifteen to twenty times as long. A switch to CFLs would save an average household over $50 a year in electricity bills.
Because of these benefits, CFLs are widely seen as an “easy” first step for persons seeking to reduce global warming. The burning of coal for electrical power is a major source of atmospheric carbon dioxide, which is now widely believed to be changing the earth’s climate. Most of our electricity in West Michigan is produced by coal-fired power plants. Consumers Energy currently has plans to build yet another coal-fired power plant in West Michigan. They are looking for land on which to build as you read this.
According to a recent report by the Washington, D.C.-based Earth Policy Institute, a worldwide shift to CFLs would permit the closing of more than 270 coal-fired power plants. Switching to CFLs in the U.S. alone could save the energy output of 80 plants.
For environmentalists, the clincher is that by requiring less energy, CFLs will actually cut down on mercury pollution produced by coal burning, and EPA agrees.
“By using less electricity, CFLs help reduce mercury emissions from coal-burning power plants, which are the largest source of human-caused mercury emissions in the United States,” says EPA press officer Ernest Jones.
Because CFLs contain a small amount mercury they need to be used and disposed of in a responsible manner. The best option for managing a spent CFL is to recycle it. Home Depot now accepts CFLs for recycling, or go to:
